Patsy Lassbo is a Swedish composer and theatre artist whose work resides in the interspaces between body and machine, music and theatre, representation and dissolution. Their artistic practice primarily moves within the borderlands between experimental composition and contemporary theatre, where they use music, synthetic voice, dramaturgy, scenography, text, video and performance to compose the theatrical machinery itself.
Patsy’s artistic approach is rooted in a queer-embodied and trans*aesthetic listening — a presence and absence — with a particular sensitivity for liminal, contradictory and ambiguous phenomena, moods and states of mind that characterise our contemporary condition. With the concept of composed theatre as a point of departure, they compose the theatrical event itself: the dramaturgical and affective whole of the stage.
For Patsy, theatre is not about representation but about a physical, spiritual and affective state in which the lost distance between things — and between people — can be playfully examined and renegotiated. Lassbo explores the mechanisms that shape our perception, the cognitive overload that permeates our time, and the (empty) spaces this saturation grants us access to.
Between 2022 and 2024, they attended the renowned research-based master programme DAS Theatre in Amsterdam, where they deepened their theatre practice in relation to dissociation, queer rave culture, technology and trans theory. Their graduation piece fugue (2024) was a composed theatre work exploring the dissociative potential of theatre and the speculative possibilities of trans*aesthetics.
Since 2021, Lassbo has run the production platform Dramageddon AB together with Olof Runsten. Patsy works across self-initiated productions, commissioned works and collaborations, in Sweden and internationally. Their artistry is marked by high technical skill, conceptual rigour, and a listening intuition attuned to the breath and fractures of contemporary theatre.
Patsy Lassbo is a member of the Swedish Society of Composers, Fylkingen, and Konstmusiksystrar. They have been awarded grants from institutions such as the Swedish Arts Grants Committee and the Swedish Society of Composers, and have contributed to over 35 professional performing arts productions shown in Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, and several other European countries.
